It’s become a family tradition to go see the San Francisco Mime Troup perform at Dolores Park on the 4th of July and then again in September for Labor Day. We live near Dolores Park and its free [donations are accepted]. This year is the Mime Troupe’s 50th Year Anniversary. As we spread out our blanket to claim our spot, we had the rare privilege of circumstantially sitting next to Nina, the nursery school teacher of my now teen children. She is a local icon and beloved by many. It was a family reunion and good to re-connect.
This year’s show is titled Too Big Too Fail. In the past several years, the topics have been political with the usual outstanding performances of song, dance, humor and political wit. Velina Brown is to Condoleeza Rice and Ed Holmes is to Dick Cheney as Tina Fey is to Sarah Palin. Spot on eerily-look-alike funny. However, this year the Mime Troupe steered away from party politics and Obama altogether, and instead, ventured into finance and economics, starring a Demon casting a Spell of Debt, using their new Plutonium Cards to buy whatever their hearts desire. The San Francisco Mime Troupe is truly brilliant. The show was great as usual, as are the performances by Velina Brown and Ed Holmes. Looking forward to seeing them again in September.
